Elantra. A Class-leading Sedan Car
In the crowded and often bland sedan car class the Elantra stands tall. With beautifully complex side surfaces and a unique “wave” which flows from the grille right around the car to the tail lights – it has a dynamic and distinctive look. The interior is extremely spacious, with class-leading boot and backseat space, and an overall impression of quality and refinement.
The Elantra has a very high level of safety equipment as standard, unequaled in this class at this price point, with the crowning jewel being the powerful and efficient 2.0 litre DOHC fuel injected engine. Sporting, luxurious and safe, the Elantra is a sedan car for these times. It represents everything we’ve learnt about great car design.
Elantra. Exterior
The Elantra sedan has a dynamic and innovative exterior. The curves begin at the front headlights, which rise up and outward, wrapping themselves around the sides. To reinforce a sense of motion, a contoured crease develops from under the front grille, follows the line of the bonnet and rises to become a wave that crests just above the rear wheel. The high boot lid, domed roof and flared wheel arches add to the clear visual appeal of the Elantra.
Front fog lights: Mounted on the front bumper, the clear glass foglights are both efficient and elegant (elite variants only).
Elantra. Interior
With keyless access and doors that are both wider and wider-opening than the previous generation Elantra sedan, entry to the car's five-seat interior is easier than ever. Once in you’ll find yourself with more room all round and a front seat that lets you see the world from higher up. A dashboard that falls gently away in front of you offers better visibility and a greater sense of space. In the rear, the seat splits 60:40, giving you even more luggage space (if you’ve already filled the huge 460 litres of boot space we’re impressed!).
Elantra drivers enjoy a leather wrapped steering wheel and gear lever. The six speaker stereo is excellent and also lets you connect your iPod and play MP3’s (elite model). The stereo can be controlled from the steering wheel. Other thoughtful touches abound, like the blue-lit instrument cluster, map lights in the roof console, a 12-volt power outlet and a sunglasses holder.
The Elite sedan car models raise the luxury level with leather seats, cruise control, and full climate-control air-conditioning with AQS (Air Quality Control System) and pollen filter. There’s even an electric chromic rearview mirror that reduces headlight glare.
Elantra. Safety
Safety is vitally important to Hyundai. Passive safety is built into the car body shell of the sedan with reinforced bulkheads, pillars and side impact structures as well as optimised crumple zones and load diffusion paths to carry forces around the passenger shell and away from you.
In addition, it has an advanced Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) as well as Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), which applies the optimum pressure to individual brakes in all braking situations. The Elantra also features the BAS (Brake Assist) system. This applies maximum force to the brakes during emergency stopping situations. These braking technologies are standard on all models and work in harmony with ABS for superior safety.
Passenger safety is further enhanced in the event of a frontal or side impact with six airbags: dual front, dual side and dual front-to-rear roof curtain airbags. Also featured are driver and front passenger active head restraints, as well as seatbelt load limiters and dual pretensioners for front seat passengers. With 3-point lap diagonal (ELR) seatbelts for all occupants and height adjustable seatbelts for front passengers, the Elantra looks after the entire family.
Safety Rating: 2007 NHTSA NCAP safety testing awarded the Elantra with a 5-star frontal and 4-star side impact safety rating.
